the st. francis upweller
News and Pictures
Tom and Joe have been doing a fine job. This is the largest upweller in the program with 16 silos.
Since this upweller is at St. Francis Center, The kids in the summer program have a chance to see the baby clams and oysters "up close and personal." All under the watchful eye of Gef and the other volunteers including Rick, Lily, Joe, Cara and Chris
The worms live inside a tube made of calcium. You can see the light tan worm protruding from the broken tube.
Worms are causing some problems. Note that on the left you can see where they have completely surrounded a clam so it can't open enough to feed and has starved.
