Did you know that NJ has a "State Tall Ship?"
Did you know that in 2009 you can sail on her? She is
the AJ Meerwald.
Al has worked with
the crew over a number of years. Because of that
relationship, Capt'n Jessie brought her in on July 29,
2008. We didn't make too big a deal because we really
didn't know if her 7 ft. draft would make it. BUT SHE
DID. Moms and kids stopped by and so did Mayor Tom
Stewart. She'll be back July 25
to 27, 2009 for tours and afternoon sails!
Mantoloking YC
Mantoloking Yacht Club is now a reality.
Gef delivered the upweller on Friday and they started right to
work to mount it and level it. Then they put in the silos and
hooked up the pump. Looks like they will be fully operational on
August 4.
Brant Beach YC
Seed clams arrived the week of July 12. These
pictures are from one of our new upwellers (shellfish
nurseries) at Brant Beach Yacht Club. We are happy to
have visitors there (Saturdays 9:30) and at other
upwellers. See home page for
times and locations.

Lots of education. We were asked to present our
program and explain its importance at the Maritime
Museum of NJ in Beach haven. What an event. Over fifty
people showed up for a VERY interactive session. See

ReClam the Bay is working with Alliance for a Living

Seniors and fifteen kids. Learning about Shellfish and

Things got off to a great start on July 2 at the
LBI Foundation
of the Arts and Sciences - Barnegat Bay Day. This
also marked the first shucking contest hosted by RCTB.
Harvey Cedars Shellfish, Boulevard Clam, and Blue Claw
all competed. Boulevard Clams was the winner!
The Island Blue Pages - A Guide to Protecting LBI's
Waters, was distributed for the first time!
The summer starts with some oyster sorting. Chelsea,
our Rutgers summer intern, and her dad (in the hat)
pitched in with Bruce and Rick (taking the picture) to
cull, sort and count the oysters that over -wintered in
the Taylor floats at Cedar Bonnet Island. Mortality was
less than 10%.
