New and veteran members had breakfast at
the Galley Grill.
After some "insider" knowledge from bay man Joe
Rizzo, members were off to clean the predator control
nets covering the 2007 “crop” and then took a flotilla
to Sedge Island to clean the nets there.
We have a new
relationship. The US Navy Sea Cadets. They have taken
over the Old Coast Guard facility in Beach Haven. Fix it
up. Paint it up. And grow shellfish! Rob and Al have
been doing a great job with the support of Executive
Officer Tim.
New members learned about shellfish, the
Barnegat Bay watershed, and our ecosystem. Additionally they
helped build silos for the upwellers where we grow clams and
oysters.
What a
way to start the season! The Clam Trail was nominated
and won the Governor's Tourism Award For Excellence and
we won! This is a very prestigious award (Only 10 such
awards are given out for the entire state). Rick and
Cara went to Atlantic City Thursday to receive it as
part of the Governor's Conference on Tourism.
