  • The Press of Atlantic City ran an article that provides an overview of RCTB activities. The article also provides some insight about the relationship between RCTB and the Marine Academy for Technology and Environmental Science (MATES) and an exciting program that brings shellfish into the classroom. The public school outreach brings live oysters into the classroom and links schools by the bay with schools across the state so that kids will have a “hands-on” learning experience underscoring the relationship between the water in rivers and streams that becomes waste (along with whatever is in it) in the bay.

  • Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences provides a very useful news letter, Island Blue Page News. It is based on the Island Blue Pages a terrific resource about the Barnegat Bay and Long Beach Island including the history and ecology of the region. Each Issue provides tips on things every one can do to improve the bay.  Issue number - 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

  • A comparison with previous laboratory studies, and the value of in situ methods- The recent interest in oyster bed restoration often has little to do with increasing harvest of the delicious bivalves, but is instead focused on the ability of oysters to filter phytoplankton and other particles from the water column.

The article does not diminish the importance of eelgrass, in fact it does a good job of explaining it.
