We want to show everyone all the things that need to be
done. However, members will be assigned to activity teams based on responses
to the survey, and Doreen’s follow up as a “first cut”. We would like to
verify the individual’s interest at the May 20 meeting. Below we have listed
all the things that need to be done. Specific items that we need to start
on now are underlined. Please review the activities and note ones that
are of particular interest to you. Thanks!

In The Bay Team - Identify Team Captain
o
Build and maintain screens and monitor growth of the shellfish
in the bay. This will also include caring for the oysters on the oyster reef
when it is available. We need to select a team captain, identify helpers
and set a schedule.
§
First order is to set the schedule for Sedge Island and
other site.
§
Second is to work with Equipment building team to set time
to build additional screens

Upweller Teams
o
Involvement in renovation and installation of the upwellers
(working with the Equipment Build team). Maintaining the upwellers during
the growing season. Providing information to visitors to the upwellers (as
needed).We need to confirm 2007 helpers and have new members sign up for
the various upwellers and have team captains update records. 2008 teams will
meet at the June 17 meeting to meet each other and discuss the work load and
schedule.
o
IBSP, Holiday Harbor, Barnegat Light, SCYC, St Francis,
Cedar Bonnet Island, Brant Beach Yacht Club (new), USN Sea Cadets –Beach
Haven (additional new upwellers), Cape Horn Marina (New), Mantoloking (new?)
o
Inventory items at and for each upweller. Add flow meter.

Equipment Building Team (Gef Flimlin team leader)
o
Building support items for the In The Bay and Upweller teams
and other items as they become necessary.
o
Upwellers – Oversee the construction of 4 new upwellers
(Cape Horn, Beach Haven, Brant Beach, Mantoloking) Oversee updating of
existing upwellers. New sluice box and set up for new larger screen silos

Move SCYC and run new line to pump
§
Locate and set up USNSC
§
Locate and set up Brant Beach
§
Locate and set up Cape Horn
§
Locate and set up Mantoloking
o
Build silos:
§
Each upweller will have 4 1mm silos. Two silos for Oysters
and two for clams. The remaining 6 (in the 10 silo upwellers) will be 1/8
mesh and will be used when original are sized.

This means that we will need 28 1mm silos and 4 spares.
§
Will need 36 1/8 silos plus 6 for St. Francis = 42 plus 4
spares

Build predator nets = 8

Fundraising Team
o
There are several areas of activity on this team:
§
Person to person fundraising like at fairs and festival,
talking to people at upwellers and just promoting our activities to friends
and neighbors.
§
Helping to find and author grants
§
Helping with business contributions; Call and visit all
locations. Giant Clams, Tee shirts and stickers. Verify all locations.
Discuss new programs. Add new ones in Mantoloking, Toms River, Waretown
Island Beach.

Education and Speakers Bureau
o
Helping to refine some presentation. Involvement is based on
member comfort zone:
o
Class room with kids (Sign up for St. Francis)
o
General knowledge (non-classroom) Eg. Yacht or fishing club.

General knowledge at upwellers
o
Supporting detailed session with Gef or Cara as lead
o
Museum Display at Maritime Museum - Beach Haven,
